Alvarado returns for another season

TORONTO, Ontario – The Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club (@MapleLeafsBaseball) announced today signing of left-handed pitcher Wilgenis Alvarado (Aragua, Venezuela)

Alvarado joined Toronto last season after spending 3 seasons in the Toronto Blue Jays organization where in 2022 in Dunedin (A) he went 4-3 in 45.1 inning pitched. Last season, Alvarado was named a 2nd Team IBL All-Star after posting a lead leading 2.36 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 53.1 innings pitched. In the playoffs, Alvarado went 2-1 with a 3.07 ERA in 4 starts.

"Wilgenis was amazing last season and really became a dominate lefty. After starting the season in the pen, he really made a difference anchoring our starting staff and he was unbelievable in the playoffs. With another year of being in Toronto, learning the language and being comfortable, I anticipate an even better season." stated GM Jeff Lounsbury

Opening day is set for May 12 at 2:00pm at Christie Pits.
