Leafs Drop Third Straight in 2-1 Loss to Royals
By Noam Streiffer
The Leafs continue their weekend skid in a 2-1 loss to the Guelph Royals. It's the Leafs' third loss in a row and brings their record back down to .500.
Adam Jafine got the start for the Leafs, and aside from a tough first inning where he allowed two unearned runs, he looked sharp—going six innings and allowing just four hits.
On the Guelph side, it was Jacob Kush who looked elite, pitching eight innings, allowing just one unearned run, and striking out 10 in a dominant showing.
The Royals' two runs came in the first inning. Brando Leroux came in to score on an error by the shortstop, followed by a sacrifice fly from Marc Nellis to give the Royals a 2-0 lead.
That score held until the eighth inning when Spenser Ross came around to score on a Jhon Javier single. But that was all the offense the Leafs could muster on the night.
Gaku Ueda came in to shut things down, and he did just that—striking out two en route to his second save in a row.
Up Next: On Sunday, the Leafs head to London to take on the Majors from Labatt Park. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m.
