Leafs Fall Below .500 After Loss to Majors

By Noam Streiffer

The Leafs dropped their fourth game in a row, falling 6-3 to the London Majors on Sunday night. The loss brings Toronto’s record below .500 and drops them to 5th in the IBL standings.

Drew Howard got the start for the Leafs and struggled, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings pitched.

For London, Jose Arias provided much-needed length, going 6.2 innings and giving up 3 runs en route to the win.

Toronto opened the scoring in the top of the first when Justin Marra hit an RBI single to bring home his brother Dan. But the lead didn’t last long.

London responded with a four-run bottom half. Tucker Zdunich tied the game with an RBI double, Brad Verhoeven brought in another run on an error at first base, and Champ Garner capped it off with a two-run single to make it 4-1.

Toronto chipped away with a Ryan Dos Santos RBI double in the third, and again in the seventh when Justin Marra drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in a run. But it wasn’t enough.

The Majors added two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh on a pair of RBI singles to reach the final score of 6-3.

Skylar Janisse came on in the ninth and shut the door, striking out three to earn the save.
