Leafs Fall to Baycats 17-7, Drop to .500 on the Season

The Toronto Maple Leafs lost their sixth game of the season in a blowout 17-7 loss to the Barrie Baycats.

This loss brings the Leafs' record to 6-6 and marks the end of a brutal stretch of 5 games in 6 days.

Luis Florentino got the start for the Leafs and looked sharp through his first few innings, but ended his night having given up 6 runs — none of which were earned.

The Baycats countered with Cesar Rosado, who had a solid outing. He pitched 5 innings, allowing three earned runs en route to the win.

Things were close until the 4th inning when the Baycats exploded for back-to-back 4-run innings to take a commanding 10-3 lead.

The Leafs would muster up 4 more runs over the course of the game, due in large part to Kalayo Shaw and Dennis Dei Baning, who had three hits and 3 RBI, respectively.

However, this wouldn’t be enough, as Barrie tacked on 7 more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to reach the final score of 17-7.

The highlight performer for the Baycats was Brandon Hernandez, who recorded three hits, a walk, and three RBI to propel Barrie to a dominant win.

Up next: The Leafs take on the Hamilton Cardinals at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium on Friday, June 13. First pitch at 7:35 PM.
