LEAFS TAKE DOWN WELLAND, CLIMB BACK TO .500 AS SCHEDULE PASSES HALFWAY POINT

The Maple Leafs got back in the win column on Tuesday night with a critical 4-2 victory over the Welland Jackfish. 


This win brings their season record back to .500, and they now sit just four games behind the Jackfish in the standings. 


Josh Berenbaum got the start for the Leafs, delivering a clean outing with 6 shutout innings while striking out 5 Jackfish en route to the win. 


On the Welland side, James Bradwell struck out 6 over 5 innings, but the Leafs were able to break through in the 5th inning with an RBI single from Jhon Javier. 


From there, the Leafs kept their foot on the gas, adding two more runs in the 6th inning. 


Justin Marra singled to bring Marcus Knecht around to score, followed by a sacrifice fly from his brother Dan that plated Rando Moreno to make it a 3-0 ballgame. 


The Leafs added another run in the 7th on Javier's second RBI single of the night. 


Luis Florentino came in to collect the save, but Welland made a push, getting to him for two runs on a 2-run single from Pier-Oliver Boucher, which set the final score at 4-2. 

Up Next: The Leafs head home to take on the Barrie Baycats on Friday night. First pitch is at 7:30 PM.
