Lefty Wilgenis Alvarado joins the Leafs

TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club (@iblmapleleafs) announced today the signing left handed pitcher Wilgenis Alvarado (Maracay, Ven)

Alvarado joins the Leafs after spending 3 seasons in the Toronto Bluejay Organization, spending 2022 with Dunedin. He went 4-3 in 23 games. With 52 strikeouts in 45.1 Innings. In his 3 years in the minors he has a 10-11 record with 109 strikeouts in 121.2 Innings.

According to a Jays staff member Alvarado is solid, good curveball, a good guy and sits at 90.

"We were looking for a left handed arm who could start or relieve and Alvarado can do that. He throws 90 with very little effort, he's smooth and easy in his delivery. I also feel that COVID hurt him a bit in his development as he lost a year and half of pro ball opportunities and we look forward to helping him get back into pro, he is young enough to catch on." GM Jeff Lounsbury

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a member of Canada’s best league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year-old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
