MAPLE LEAFS DROP ANOTHER GAME TO RED-HOT BAYCATS
Written by: Noam Streiffer
The Maple Leafs entered Friday's matchup with the Barrie Baycats coming off a win against the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers on Sunday and a well-played loss against the Welland Jackfish on Wednesday.
However, their hopes of building momentum were squashed by a red-hot Baycats team, as they dominated the Leafs in a 13-2 blowout.
Barrie got to Leafs starter Frankie Gulko in the very first inning with a string of base hits to start the game, taking a 3-0 lead.
Gulko allowed another two runs in the top of the fourth on a Canice Ejoh two-run shot before he was pulled from the game, handing things over to Ben Sitarenios.
Sitarenios allowed another five earned runs in the top of the sixth following a string of base hits and a three-run shot by Nolan Machibroda off Graham Sim after Sitarenios was pulled with two runners on.
Noah Hull tacked on a solo shot of his own in the top of the seventh to make it a 12-0 ballgame. However, the Leafs would get on the board by manufacturing a run in the bottom half of the eighth, making it a 12-1 game.
Adam Odd restored the 12-run lead with a solo home run in the top half of the ninth, and Marcus Knecht would match him with a solo shot of his own, staying hot after a four-hit game on Sunday and bringing the score to its final of 13-2.
Up next: The Maple Leafs head to Guelph to take on the Royals Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
