MAPLE LEAFS RE-SIGN MAREK DESKA
TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club (@mapleleafsbaseball) have re-signed Right-Handed Pitcher Marek Deska for the upcoming 2025 season.
Deska, who broke into the IBL with the Maple Leafs in 2006, returns after appearing in 9 games last summer while tossing 22 innings. Since making his IBL debut, Deska has amassed over 700 innings across more than 170 games - regular and postseason combined - with over 100 starts. Now the longest-tenured member of the Maple Leafs, he sits amongst the top-ten all-time appearance leaders in IBL history. Deska has also pitched in the Dutch Major League, with the Polish National Team, and with the University of Toronto Varsity blues where he was a member of multiple OUA Championship teams.
“Marek’s a legend of this team, his history within the Maple Leafs’ organization is second-to-none. He’s pitched around the world, on some of the biggest international stages, and has almost two decades of extremely valuable experience to offer our pitching staff. He’s been able to be an effective swingman for a number of years, tossing both out of the bullpen and starting when needed. The leadership and guidance skills he brings with him, especially with regards to our younger pitchers, is very important to have around on successful teams,” said the club.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a member of Canada’s best league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year-old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
