MAPLE LEAFS SIGN LUIS FLORENTINO
TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club (@mapleleafsbaseball) have signed Right-Handed Pitcher Luis Florentino for the upcoming 2025 season.
Florentino, a native of Azua, Dominican Republic, joins Toronto after spending parts of three seasons in the Oakland Athletics’ organization and one with Northern Colorado in the Pioneer League. In 2019, during his first season of professional baseball, Florentino posted a 1.99 ERA over 49 ⅔ innings while notching 43 strikeouts. In 2021 and 2022 he reached double-digit K/9 rates, while amassing a near 1:1 inning-to-strikeout ratio throughout his career.
“Luis has great stuff and throws incredibly hard with movement. He’s someone we’re very high on, and we believe he will fit in perfectly amidst our pitching staff. Everyone’s very confident with how we’ve revamped our arms, especially in the bullpen, and Luis is another piece that has the ability to dominate on the mound,” said the club.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a member of Canada’s best league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year-old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
