MAPLE LEAFS SIGN MATT BROWN

TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club (@mapleleafsbaseball) have signed Right-Handed Pitcher Matt Brown for the upcoming 2025 season.

Brown, an Oakville native, joins the Maple Leafs after spending the last two seasons pitching with the University of South Florida Bulls (NCAA). He won his first career start at USF in 2024, where he started four games and made 14 appearances out of the bullpen while posting a 7.4 K/9. Brown was named Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2023 with St. Petersburg CC, also being selected for the school’s Titan Achievement Award. He has also seen action within the MLB Draft League and New England Collegiate Baseball League.

“We’re thrilled to have Matt join us. He’s a big, strong kid who we’ve seen can sit low-to-mid 90’s with his fastball and has good secondary stuff. He’s pitched a lot over the last couple seasons,  trained a lot, and we think has the potential to be a very scary piece for us out of the ‘pen. Having a good swing-and-miss rate is so important in this league, and we believe Matt has all the tools to be incredibly successful for us,” said the club.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a member of Canada’s best league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year-old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
