Rodriguez, a native of Nigua, Dominican Republic, spent two seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates’ organization from 2021-2022, amassing a combined 3.38 ERA over 19 games (7 starts) and 45.1 Innings while posting 11.9 K/9 out of the bullpen.

Most recently, Rodriguez has pitched with the Senadores de San Juan of the Puerto Rican Winter League, playing alongside the likes of MLB players Jose Abreu, Yoan Moncada, Ruben Tejada, and Lewis Thorpe.

“Sebastian has electric stuff and can hit the low-to-mid 90’s. He’s exactly the type of arm we’re thrilled to have in Toronto, and the potential for him is through the roof,” said the club.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a member of Canada’s best league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year-old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
