The Maple Leafs upset the Welland Jackfish on the road, winning 5–2 in a crucial contest. It’s Toronto’s third win in a row, bringing their record to 9–7 on the season and placing them in third.

Luis Florentino got the start for Toronto and pitched well, allowing just two runs over five innings to help propel the Leafs to the win.

Welland countered with Euclides Leyer, who had a solid outing of his own, pitching five innings of one-run ball and striking out five Leafs.

Welland got the scoring started in the bottom of the first on a Jonah Weisner solo home run to give the Jackfish an early lead.

Toronto answered quickly when Rando Moreno came in to score on a Dennis Dei Baning sacrifice fly, tying things up at 1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Matteo Porcellato grounded into a double play, but the Leafs conceded a run, allowing Jonah Weisner to score his second run of the night for the Jackfish.

Ben Abram came on in the top of the sixth to relieve Leyer and was immediately met by Jordan Castaldo, who took him deep for a solo home run to tie the game at 2.

Castaldo seems to have a knack for welcoming new relievers - when Deivy Mendez came on in the eighth inning, Castaldo took him deep as well for his second homer of the game.

Dennis Dei Baning capped things off in the top of the ninth, coming in to score on a fielder’s choice for the Leafs’ fifth and final run of the day.

Dustin Richardson picked up the two-inning save, striking out four Jackfish to secure the much-needed victory for Toronto.
