Toronto signs Buonaiuto

TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club (@iblmapleleafs) announced today the signing of outfielder Anthony Buonaiuto (Toronto, On) for 2024.

Buonaiuto signed in 2023 but never played a game due to an injury that occurred just days before the season was to begin. Anthony spent 2022 season playing for the Hamilton Cardinals.

Buonaiuto played for Team Great Britain in the fall of 2023 at the European Baseball Championship.

In 2022, Buonaiuto hit .277 (18-65) in 21 games with 2 doubles and 15 RBI with Hamilton. After graduating from George Brown College, Anthony played a few seasons in Europe before returning to Ontario and making his way to the IBL.

“Anthony will play a large role in Toronto. He gives us depth, experience, and is another veteran player who will keep things light in the clubhouse. He always has a smile on his face at the park.” GM Jeff Lounsbury

After joining the team, Anthony stated “I am extremely excited to join the Toronto Maple Leafs for the 2024 season! Toronto is my home, and I grew up watching and supporting this team since I was a kid. It is an honour and a dream come true to finally be a part of this team! “

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a member of Canada’s best league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year-old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
